About

DesignAxiom originally grew out of our frustration with web applications in the browser. Tedious to use, easy to break, web applications were a giant step backward for interactive software. And while the industry thrashed around trying to make HTML do what it wasn't intended to do, we looked to other more promising technologies.

We began working with Flash because we saw in it the potential to support truly interactive applications. Before Flash was even ready, we developed tools and techniques that made it viable for application development. And we were among the first to build substantial Flash applications with database and enterprise integration.

User Experience Design

User Experience Design at DesignAxiom is a formal requirements gathering methodology for interactive software that is used to produce a detailed specification. We use a structured process for ethnographic research - learning about users' behavior and goals. We analyze this information to develop detailed context scenarios. From there we create the application structure and wireframe designs that bring the users, scenarios, and features together into a coherent user experience.

iPad and iPhone Development

What makes iPad (and iPhone) Development a natural fit for DesignAxiom is that our clients have the same heightened expectations for user interface on the iPad as they do for Flash. It's not just about the programming. It's the ability to tackle the challenges of an integrated design and development process in situations where clients expect the best design and the highest quality software.

So its no coincidence that the design and development techniques required to produce applications on the iPad are very similar to the techniques that we use for Flash development. So similar, in fact, that DesignAxiom has been able to use elements of the same application framework on both platforms while still building native applications on each platform.

DesignAxiom Common Application Framework (DCAF)

DCAF is the basis for almost all our interactive work. Its origins go back to 2002 with the development of our first component-based object-oriented user interface. It has the distilled knowledge of hundreds of large Flash projects baked into its code.

When we started iOS development the first thing we did is compare the application model and class structures between DCAF and the iOS frameworks. Frankly we weren't surprised that they were similar, but we didn't expect to find such a close match.

That inspired us to see if we could bring them even closer. To that end DesignAxiom is making DCAF even more iOS compatible and developing tools and techniques for dual-target applications and application porting, to and from the iOS platform.

DesignAxiom customers who want to deliver native applications on the iPad and iPhone and also have a version of their application on Flash, now have a cost-effective option that doesn't compromise the performance or usability of their application.

Flash Development

Flash Development has been at the core of our practice since we began. More than any other development shop in North America, we've tackled business applications and large-scale projects with Flash. But it hasn't always been easy.

Flash has always been a platform with great promise and, for the most part, poor results. Only a very few developers and development shops know how to create applications that have the exquisite concept and design coupled with the implementation that creates effortless interaction.

We're one of those shops, but what makes us even more unique is that we've created processes and technologies that embody those best practices. We've taken the uncertainty out of creating world class applications on the Flash platform.
